A security threat refers to anything that has the potential to cause serious harm to a computer system that leaves the information stored vulnerable to access from outside of the organization. As the term implies, a security threat may or may not happen but it has a probability of causing serious damage to a computer system, networks and ultimately the organization. Threats can include everything from viruses, trojans, back doors to outright attacks from hackers (Samy, Ahmad and Ismail 2010).
